Kandinsky and Concentric Circles

To start of the year the second grade artists learned all about different types of paintings. They can identify a landscape, portrait, still life and an abstract. We went on to learn about the grandfather of abstract paint Wassily Kandinsky. We studied his concentric circles and created our own with paper and paint.

Icons of Mid-Century Design

In our on going study of design I have introduced the students to the idea of an Icon. What it is and why something is considered an icon. We designed these pieces using the program SketchbookX on our Ipads. The students did a bit of research on the icon and then created these works. I think these would make a great book! Watch for more to come.

We love Bernard and Zach O.

The artist and author Zach Ohora posted this picture of our 4th grade artist on his web site. The young artists think it is super cool that important people like authors ( Zach Ohora) will take time to acknowledge their creations. Visit the blog here: Stop Snoring Bernard!

Wyland, Tints and Shades

The third grade artists learned how to produce tints and shades with paint. They also studied about the artist Wyland and his incredible ocean murals. The third grade artists then added black ocean animals to their work. They really loved the underwater effect of these works.

Kindergarten Robots

The kinder artists worked on line, shape, pattern and painting and cutting skills when they created these robots. The artists were quite thrilled with the results.

The fourth grade Dada artists

Fourth grade started out the year learning the big secret of "why the Mona Lisa in my classroom has a mustache and goatee". The Dada's did it. They learned all about the movement and what spurred them to create in such a manner. We then created collages that we took very seriously. The had to show juxtaposition and scale-change. This is one of the students favorite lessons.

First day of art and last day of art

On the first day of art the kindergartners draw a picture of themselves. Then on the last day of class they do it again on the same sheet of paper. They are always amazed at their progress. See you in 1st grade kinders.
