Career Day

We had the great pleasure of having artist Justin Vining come talk to the students today. It was Career Day at Shamrock and the students got to choose four different career sessions to attend. Each session was held by a different person from a particular career. I hosted Justin in my room and he was great. The kids were completely engaged with all he told the them about how he became an artist. He was first an art teacher, then went to law school and now is a full time artists. He shared images of his work, brought his supplies, showed videos of how he works and answered all the students questions.
I hope he can return to see us next year.

Boxes

We found 25 boxes in the trash. They were too good to waste, so a third grade class collected them. Then we started brainstorming.
Yea! Boxes!

Prepping the boxes.

Collaging and painting the boxes.

Photos for the artwork!

What do you want to tell the world?

Way to go third grade artists!

Jellyfish Stuffies

The first grade artists made soft jellyfish. They were so excited to learn how to sew "for real!".
They used an all white men's footie. We filled the jelly with shredded paper and sewed it closed with yarn and a plastic needle. Then they sewed on the tentacles and added eyes and the bell. The artists were so excited about their creations.

Book Covers

I worked with Mrs. Dubovich's fourth grade class for this activity. They are working on writing mysteries. She asked if we could make the covers in art class and I quickly agreed. Since Mrs. Dubovich is using technology for the writing of the mysteries I thought we would use it for the covers as well. Some of the work was hand made and then worked on in the app Sketch Book X. Some of the work was made completely on the iPads.
With the help of Chip Kidd we created these great works of art. I cant wait to read the books.
