Pop Art Cans

The third grade artists started learning about Pop Art. In particular that Pop Art was a response to the work of the Abstract Expressionists. We created works that used repetition, stencils. familiar images and complementary colors. Pretty cool.

Not Starry Night

The second grade artists are familiar with the works of the artist Van Gogh. When they were in first grade the student artists studied Starry Night and Sunflowers. This year we pay homage to Van Gogh again by creating a "Not Starry Night". The artists choose to paint a new time of day and a new weather phenomena. They had to include the cypress tree on the left, the village, horizon line and brush strokes of Van Gogh. Here are some of the results.

This week in the studio

The fourth grade artists are making tints and shades. We all find this very relaxing after frenetic printmaking.

More silkscreen prints

This one is in Hindi

First graders learned all about reptiles, especially turtles. They also learned about point of view and how many scutes a turtle has on it's shell. They started these paintings.

Kindergarten took a break from painting and made a color wheel on a plate. They all learned all about primary and secondary colors.

Silkscreen Printing

Forth grade artists are crazy for the printing. They have created some great images and have fallen in love with the process. They really enjoy the message prints to the abstract ones.
This is my example. It is also a play on words.

This is printed on dictionary paper. The young artists thought this was too cool. They loved the new use for the dictionary.

Prints with a message

The fourth grade followed up their abstract silkscreen prints with message prints. We printed on various papers including dictionary pages and news papers. These turned out so cool!

Audubon would be pleased

Here is some more work from the third grade orinthologists.
