Fourth Grade Surrealist Collage

These collages are serious business. Unlike our other works of art where you brain storm for ideas first, this work has the artists being image fed, then creating the work.  The Artists had to look through magazines to find images that were very normal and everyday. They could not use anything illustrated, strange, scale-changed or juxtaposed. Then after collecting the images and a background the artists rearranged the images to be very surrealistic. The main goal was to have everyday images re-arranged in a very dreamlike fashion. There was also to be interaction of the subjects on the artworks. The students had to cut very close to the image to create a seamless image. A lot of work indeed. This work was created after much study of the Dada and Surrealist art movements.

This Week in the Art Classroom

This week in the art classroom we have started a few projects and learned about some new artists.
All the Shamrock artists have been working really hard.
The third grade artists are working on symmetry.
The kinder artists have been working on lines so we explored the straight and curved lines in the alphabet on our table tops.
The kinder artists also worked with the shape tiles.
The first grade artists worked collaboratively to create this Matisse garland for our room. They explored geometric and biomorphic shapes.
 Sam's mirror symmetry name.

Fun Things at the IMA

The IMA is such a great museum, we are so lucky to have it in Indy. If you have not gone to the IMA's 100 Acre sculpture park I highly recommend packing a picnic and going there for a visit. There are a lot of cool upcoming events, I will keep you updated on some of the activities offered there. Best of all it is FREE!
