Celebration of the Arts

Last week Shamrock Springs had the Celebration of the Arts. I held an opening in my room and displayed an artwork from each artist a Shamrock Springs. I love seeing how excited the artists are to show off their work and enjoy the work of others.

Clocks

Last year the school was getting all new clocks and trashing the old ones. Like a good art teacher I collected all the old clocks because I knew we could do cool things with them. I only had 27 clocks- enough for one class. Mrs. Dubovich's class have been the most engaged in art class this year so they got to get the clocks. They could paint their clocks "in the manner of" and an artist or create something meaningful to them. They turned out so cool!!!

First grade still life

The first grade artists studied the difference between portraits, landscapes, abstract and still life paintings. They also studied Van Gogh's Irises and Sunflowers. With all that knowledge they sat down to paint a still life of their own. Their goals where to paint what they see and to make sure that all the flowers do not face the same way.

Sakura

The second grade artists studied Japan and learned about haiku poetry, sakura (cherry blossoms) and gyotaku fish prints. The artists especially enjoyed making the tree brances. They used sumi-e ink and a straw and blew the ink across the page. Now that is zen!

Fouth Grade

During Career Day here at Shamrock the third and fourth grade learned about different careers. In the art room we discussed what a medical/scientific illustrator does. Then we went to the science lab to make some illustrations from specimens . The students then took those drawings and cropped them making an interesting abstract composition. Next, they painted the work in tints and shades.
